The BeginningIn the beginning, Yocheved and her two young children, Miriam and Aaron, watch as the newborn Jewish boys are taken and ruthlessly killed as ordered by Pharaoh Seti, who fears that an alarming increase of Jewish slaves could lead to rebellion. Fearing for her own newborn son's safety, Yocheved places him in a basket afloat on the Nile River, not before bidding him farewell with a final but powerful lullaby. Miriam follows the basket as it sails to the Pharaoh's palace and witnesses her baby brother safely adopted by Seti's wife Queen Tuya, who names him Moses.

These Palace Walls
The Prince Of Egypt - Part 1Years later, Moses and his adoptive brother Rameses are scolded by their father for accidentally destroying a temple during one of their youthful misadventures. At Moses' suggestion, Seti, seeking to give Rameses the opportunity to prove that he is a responsible young man, names him Prince Regent and gives him authority over Egypt's temples. As a tribute, the high priests Hotep and Huy offer him a beautiful young Midianite woman, Tzipporah, whom Rameses gives to Moses, appointing him Royal Chief Architect.

All I Ever Wanted
The Prince Of Egypt - Part 2Later that night, Moses follows Tzipporah as she escapes from the palace, and runs into the now-adult Miriam and Aaron, but he does not recognize them. Miriam tries to convince Moses of his birth-mother Yocheved and that he is in fact a Jew. Blinded by his father's upbringing, Moses threatens Miriam to forsake these claims or face death itself. She then sings her mother's lullaby, which Moses remembers; however, he returns to the palace, eager to go back to familiar surroundings. The truth about his past is later confirmed by a nightmare, and finally by Seti himself, who disturbs Moses by claiming the Hebrews were "only slaves". The young Queen reassures Moses that while he was brought here in nothing but a humble basket, her love her him will always be unconditional.

A Grand CelebrationThat very night, Moses was to be honored as one of Jethro's guests. A grand celebration takes place in the wake of the village. Moses is hesitant to participate in the grand occasion as he still feels the shame from leaving his home. Jethro sings directly to Moses, and convinces him to re-examine how he views his existence, through heaven's eyes rather than his own. As the song takes flight, the beautiful ballad transitions into a lovely wedding scene between Moses and Tzipporah, and begins his new life as a shepherd.

Playing With The Big Boys
The Prince Of Egypt - Part 6Moses arrives at the palace where he is welcomed by his brother Rameses who is now Pharaoh. Moses repeats God's phrase, "Let my people go," in reference to the enslaved Hebrews, but Rameses takes it very lightly. In order to humor himself, Rameses calls upon his priests to challenge Moses and his God. An assembly of priests begin to flood in while two of them, Hotep and Huy take the lead in the duel. As they taunt and tease Moses and belittle his God, they concoct a snake in the ring to show off their power. Moses retaliates, with his staff turning into an even more powerful cobra than that of the priests, eventually conquering and devouring it. No longer amused, Rameses speaks with Moses on the side and asks him his true purpose in returning. Unchanged, Moses repeats his demand of freeing the enslaved Hebrews, but it was all for not. Now as proof of punishment for defying Pharaoh, Rameses doubled the Hebrew's workload, leaving all the blame to Moses.

River Blood Scene
The Prince Of Egypt - Part 7The Hebrews who've heard of Moses' failure, blame him for their deepened aggravation in labor. Aaron in particular angrily pesters Moses' involvement if he proves no positive outcome. As Miriam defends Moses, Moses sees Pharaoh and his two priests ride a boat on the Nile river. Rameses further taunts Moses' God, claiming him to be no match for his gods. Moses takes the staff, sets it straight into the water, and everyone watches as small strings of blood slowly float out from under it and into the river. The River, now a sea of red death, angers Rameses and demands the same from his two priests. Hotep and Huy disguise red powder as true power from the Egyptian gods and continues to foster's Rameses' illusion of almighty power. The Hebrews turn to Moses, discouraged by what they just witnessed, but for the Egyptians, it was only the beginning.

Egypt's SufferingMoses inflicts nine of the Plagues of Egypt. They served to contrast the power of the God of Israel with the Egyptian gods, invalidating them. With every one, Moses reminded Pharaoh of the same command, "Let My people go," but Pharaoh refused. A series of tragic events ensued Egypt including the transition of water to blood, a swarm of mosquitos, frogs and lice, the death of all Egyptian livestock, boils upon the flesh, dark thumderstorms of hail and fire, a swarm so saturated of locusts that not even the sky illuminated almost a constant grey, and the fright of total darkness for three days. All those who did not worship or heed the word of God were struck, but none would compare to what awaited them next.

Angel Of Death
The Prince Of Egypt - Part 8Moses warns Rameses one last time to heed God's command to let His people go, foreshadowing the final plague. As they speak, Rameses son, Amun, enters questioning Moses' intentions. Moses blames Rameses stubbornness to be the cause of Egypt's pain and begs Rameses to think of his son. Rameses is angered and stands by his father's example to extinguish the Hebrews. Disheartened, Moses prepares the Hebrews for the tenth and final plague, instructing them to sacrifice a lamb and mark the doorposts with the lamb's blood. That night, the final plague kills all the firstborn children of Egypt, including Rameses' son, while sparing those of the Hebrews with the mark of the lamb on their doors. A grief-stricken Rameses finally gives Moses permission to free the Hebrews. After leaving the palace, Moses collapses weeping with grief, heartbroken at the pain he has caused his brother and Egypt.

The Ten Commandments
The Prince Of Egypt - Part 9On the final notes of the song, the Hebrews have apparoached the Red Sea. From afar, they could hear Rameses behind them with his army of the royal Egyptian guards. Frightened, the Hebrews begin to run towards the sea. In an instant, a blazing tornado of fire shoots down from the sky, blocking the Egyptians from attacking the Hebrews. Trapped between the Egyptians and the Red Sea, Moses lifts his staff, slams it into the water and separates the Red Sea into two large bodies of water for the Hebrews to safely walk through. Halfway through their journey, the fire ceases, releasing the Egyptians to attack the Jews. As Rameses charges through the land and into the water, the Hebrews flee in terror to the other side. Once every single one of them had safely passed, the bodies of water began to rise, swallowing Rameses and the soldiers with along with him back into the Sea. Brought back from the brink of death, the Hebrews were bewildered. As they stood there in silence, their faces lit up as it began to seep into their minds that they were at last finally free. Moses takes one final look at the water, still hearing the cries of Rameses as he survived upon a rock, left there to die along with their brotherhood. Our story ends with Moses descending from the tops of Mount Zion with the Ten Commandments in hand ready to lead his new people, for while he might of been born a slave and casted aside for most of his life, he will forever be known as The Prince of Egypt.
